3 Ways to Heal Your Shadow
When I say space to breathe and rest, I mean just that. Folks who are being called to do shadow work are usually those who are healing from past experiences of trauma such as relational abuse and neglect.
Did you know our relationships can guide our nervous system? When we find ourselves in chaotic environments with chaotic people our nervous system can get wrecked. When we don’t listen to our bodies when it’s screaming at us to leave or get out, our nervous system can shut down. It is common for people recovering from traumatic experiences to feel very, very tired and anxious after they’ve escaped the toxicity.
We don’t realize how much energy it really takes to people please or to wear a mask, so that nobody knows that we’re struggling. But most of us don’t slow down. Most of us, under capitalism, will try to work more, perform harder and further cause damage to our bodies and spirits.
Think about it… when was the last time you sat down and GAVE YOURSELF SPACE TO BREATHE? When we are finally able to be in a place where we can commit to doing shadow work, we’re going to need a lot of deep breaths, and we’re gonna need a lot of rest so that our nervous system can recalibrate to a place of safety rather than from fear.
